Miss American Pie

One thing I inherited when I married Ian was his Grandma Haag's apple pie recipe.  I had always heard Ian say that his grandma's apple pie was the best he had ever tasted and with that would come a nervousness that I would someday make a clumsy attempt at imitating this Haag Family masterpiece.  Well, after our trip to the apple orchards last month I pulled out the recipe that Ian had put safely into my recipe box and Ryan and I began making pies while Ian was at a soccer game.  Ryan peeled apples like it was his job and I mixed the other ingredients for the filling.  The new KitchenAid stand mixer was put to use to mix the crumbled topping.  We assembled the pies and popped them in the oven.  An hour later we had the most beautiful and delicious apple pies...really the best I have ever tasted.  Ian agreed.  Grandma Haag's recipe is now one of my most cherished family recipes.  I would love to have a collection of favorite recipes from our loved ones.  So, if you're reading this and you have a signature dish or a family favorite that you would be willing to share...I would LOVE to have the recipe along with the "history" behind it.

Here are a few pictures of some of my recent culinary adventures.....
